A Faraway LandI saw a man the other day,
His eyes were blue, his hair was grey.
He spoke kindly, and held my hand,
He told me softly of a faraway land.
So quiet was he, he whispered, he feared,
For spoken too loudly, the land disappeared.
He spoke of its riches, its beauties, its wealth.
He spoke of its history, in the days of his health.
Finished speaking, he squeezed my hand,
His eyes gazing back on that faraway land.
And with tears in his eyes, and hope on his face,
He thought back on that beloved place.
And as he slipped softly into sleep,
I saw death begin to creep.
Surrendering to dreams, he dropped my hand
And returned at last to that faraway land.
